HC- Decide representation to appoint Information Commissioner

In the writ filed by RTI activist Dr Nutan Thakur, the Allahabad High Court, Lucknow Bench today ordered to take appropriate decision over the representation about appointing her as Information Commissioner. The Bench of Justice Uma Nath Singh and Justice Mahendra Dayal ordered Principal Secretary, Administrative Reforms and Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister to take appropriate decision in the light of the Supreme Court order. Lucknow based RTI activist Urvashi Sharma had sent a representation on 09 April 2012 to Akhilesh Yadav, Chief Minister, UP requesting that genuine and knowledgeable RTI activists shall be appointed as Information Commissioner instead of political appointees. She presented Nutan’s biodata as one such appropriate person.  Nutan had also requested the State Government through her representation on 24 January 2013 to have transparency in making these appointments, so that applications from all willing persons is invited and  appointment made in completely transparent and definite manner.Presently there are eight posts of Information Commissioners vacant in UP where appointments are to be made soon.
