Shiromani Akali Dal today described the sinister move of the Congress government in Haryana to dilute, divide and break up “the supreme , sacred and historic religious institution, the SGPC, by setting up a parallel body in that state as ” direct assault on the Khalsa Panth, its history, traditions and spiritual values”.
“It appears that the Congress party has not learnt any lesson from the fate met by the enemies of the Khalsa Panth since the times of Ahmad Shah Abdali,. On the contrary, it is as if the spirit of Abdali had descended again into the leaders of the anti-Sikh Congress party, including the present modern Subedars in Haryana like Bhupinder SIngh Hooda”, said a resolution passed at an emergency meeting of the Core Committee of the party here this evening at the residence of the Chief Minister, Mr Parkash SIngh Badal and attended among others, by the CM, the party president and Deputy CM Mr Sukhbir SIngh Badal and the SGPC president Mr Avtar Singh.

Giving details of the meeting to the media, the party General Secretary Mr Harcharan Bains said that the party was firmly of the view that the action of the Haryana Government was not a “flagrant violation of the constitutional provisions but also a highly provocative interference in the religious affairs of the Sikh community, and that this would never be allowed to succeed.”The anti-Sikh moves and decisions of the Congress Govt. in Harayana had created a very critical situation including a grave constitutional crisis in the country”. The party asked the center to “intervene effectively, urgently and immediately” to prevent the situation from getting even worse and uglier. ”
The resolution also traced the history of “acts of interference and assaults on the Khalsa Panth since the times of Babar and Ahamd Shah Abdali, and said, ” The Haryana Chief Mnister has challenged the honour of the great Sikh quom and the Khalsa Panth accepts the challenge. We will confront him at every steps and will never allow him to succeed.”
“By its action the Haryana Government has also sought to endanger the hard earned atmosphere of peace in the region. The Sikhs all over the world have been deeply hurt by this nefarious move and “every soldier of the Panth was determined and ready to fight this challenge till the very end. ” The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) fully respects the sentiments of Sikh community would spearhead the fight against to the end.
