Therefore this day is considered one of the most auspicious occasions for a happy married life. On this day, married women observe the fast of Hartalika Teej for the long life and happiness and prosperity of their husbands. Whereas unmarried girls observe Nirjala fast to get the desired groom. It is believed that Mother Parvati also got Lord Shiva as her husband only after observing this fast. On this day special worship of Mother Parvati and Lord Shiva is done. Importance of Hartalika Teej fast

According to Sanatan tradition, the practice of doing sixteen adornments among married women has been prevalent since ancient times. Hartalika Teej is mainly dedicated to Mother Parvati. That’s why 16 adornments are also associated with him. The festival of Hartalika Teej is celebrated keeping in mind the unbreakable relationship between Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva. On this day, by doing 16 adornments and worshiping Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva and fasting, married women get the blessings of unbroken good fortune.

Story of Hartalika Teej

According to Shiva Purana, King Daksh was not happy with his daughter Sati’s decision (marriage to Lord Shiva) for a long time. Therefore, Lord Shiva was not invited in any auspicious function. Once King Daksh organized a huge yagya. Even in this yagya, Lord Shiva was not called. Mother Sati did not agree even after repeated refusals from Lord Shiva, then Lord Shiva allowed her to go.

Lord Shiva came in a dream and reminded me about my previous birth. Lord Shiva knew the future. As per the rules of the law, after hearing the insult of her husband, Mother Sati sacrificed herself in the Yagya Kund. Lord Shiva’s heart was torn apart by this. Lord Vishnu calmed his anger. In the next birth, Mother Sati was born as Mother Parvati in the house of Himalayas. However, Mother Parvati did not remember her previous birth. One night Lord Shiva appeared in a dream and reminded Mother Parvati.

Mother Parvati had accepted Lord Shiva as her husband. From that time Mother Parvati accepted Lord Shiva as her husband, when Mother Parvati grew up, her father took advice from Narad ji for marriage. At that time, on the advice of Narad ji, Mother Parvati’s father fixed the marriage of his daughter with Lord Vishnu. At that time Mother Parvati did not like the relationship. After this, Mata Parvati’s friends took her to the dense forest.
