Gul Panag signs MoU with Health Department UT

In order to generate awareness for the prevailing menace of female Foeticide and drug Addiction in U.T. Chandigarh Health Department has enrolled a new NGO namely Col. Shamsher Singh Foundation under the ongoing Partnership Initiative Programme. The founder member of the NGO Ms. Gul Panag, former Miss India signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Health Department in the presence of Sh. Ram Niwas, IAS, Home Secretary cum Health Secretary and Dr. Manjit Singh Bains, Director Health & Family Welfare, U.T, Health Department to work for the important social causes of Female Foeticide and Drug Addiction.

In his briefing to the new NGO Sh. Ram Niwas, apprised them regarding their responsibilities in awareness generation for this issue, monitoring of Ultrasound Centres to prevent sex determination as well as volunteering as decoy during raids on clinics/ultrasound centres to check Female Foeticide. The NGO was also asked to motivate the people by recognizing the birth of 2nd girl child in the form of celebrations of birthdays or festivals like Lohri etc. They were also made aware about the prevailing sex ratio scenario in Chandigarh and the steps being taken by the Department to combat this evil.

Support was also asked for the cause of Drug De-addiction whereby the NGO can help in identification of drug addicts and weaning them away from drugs.  The NGO was asked to extend cooperation by making a follow up and rehabilitating the drug addicts after treatment. This kind of cooperation as well as hand holding exercise between the Health Department and NGOs shall go a long way in eradicating the evils of Female Foeticide and Drug Abuse from our society.

Ms. Gul Panag assured the Secretary Health that her NGO would work with dedication and commitment to make the programme of generating awareness against female foeticide and drug addition a success.
