Country’s First Lithium Ion Cell Manufacturing Gigafactory to be Set up in Gujarat

Ahmedabad
Gujarat – :  under the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, is poised to become the frontrunner in the lithium-ion cell manufacturing sector in the country. In a significant development, the Gujarat government has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Tata Group for the establishment of a Lithium Ion Cell Manufacturing Gigafactory. This milestone was achieved through the implementation of a new electronic policy formulated under the guidance of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel.

The MoU signing ceremony took place in the presence of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel in Gandhinagar, where Vijay Nehra, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Agartas Energy Storage Solutions Pvt Ltd, a subsidiary of the Tata Group, and Secretary of the Department of Science and Technology, Government of Gujarat, signed and exchanged the MoU. The event was truly inspiring, showcasing the commitment of the state government towards fostering innovation and growth.

This endeavor holds great significance as it aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of achieving 50% carbon-free energy usage and 100% electric vehicle adoption by 2030. By setting up this Gigafactory, Gujarat is taking a monumental step towards realizing these goals. The state will host India’s first-ever lithium-ion cell production plant, which will not only solidify its position as a leader in the field but also contribute to the establishment of a robust battery manufacturing ecosystem.

The proposed Gigafactory will commence operations with an estimated initial investment of Rs 13,000 crore and boast a production capacity of 20 Giga Watt Hours (GWh). This impressive facility will not only pave the way for cutting-edge advancements in lithium-ion cell manufacturing but also provide significant employment opportunities. It is projected to create both direct and indirect job prospects for over 13,000 individuals, further strengthening the state’s economy and fostering inclusive growth.

Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel’s visionary approach is driving the state’s commitment to promoting carbon emission-free energy, often referred to as green and clean energy. By augmenting the production of Electric Vehicles (EVs) and reducing the consumption of fossil fuels, Gujarat aims to reduce carbon emissions substantially. The increasing usage of electric vehicles will inevitably lead to a surge in the demand for lithium-ion batteries. The establishment of the Tata Group’s manufacturing plant will not only address this rising demand but also position Gujarat as a frontrunner in lithium-ion cell production.

During the ceremony, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel expressed the state government’s unwavering support and cooperation for the success of this transformative project. This commitment signifies Gujarat’s strong determination to create an enabling environment for innovation, technology, and sustainable development. The presence of esteemed officials such as Chief Principal Secretary to Chief Minister K. Kailashnathan, Chief Secretary Raj Kumar, Additional Chief Secretary Pankaj Joshi, and senior representatives of the Tata Group further underscores the significance and magnitude of this collaboration.

In conclusion, the establishment of the country’s first Lithium Ion Cell Manufacturing Gigafactory in Gujarat marks a remarkable milestone in India’s pursuit of clean energy and electric mobility. With a steadfast focus on technological advancements, sustainability, and job creation, Gujarat is poised to emerge as a leader in the field of lithium-ion cell manufacturing. This groundbreaking initiative aligns perfectly with the larger national vision of achieving carbon neutrality and fostering a greener future for generations to come.
