The Gujarat High Court has taken a significant decision to commence the hearing on the petition filed against the conviction of Asaram Bapu, who is currently 85 years old. The case dates back to 2013 and is related to a rape case. Considering the advancing age of Asaram Bapu, the High Court has decided to start the hearing on the petition.

Background of the Case

In January 2023, a trial court in Gujarat convicted Asaram Bapu for multiple counts of rape against a female disciple at his ashram in Surat in 2013. He was found guilty under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including Section 376 (rape), Section 377 (unnatural sexual offenses), Section 354 (outraging the modesty of a woman), Section 346 (wrongful confinement), Section 120 B (criminal conspiracy), and Section 201 (causing disappearance of evidence).

Decision by the High Court

The High Court, led by Justices A.S. Supehia and Vimal Vyas, was previously hearing the plea to suspend Asaram Bapu’s sentence. However, they have now prioritized the hearing on his appeal against the conviction. Justice Supehia remarked that Asaram Bapu has already served 10 years in jail and is now 85 years old. Instead of considering his plea for suspension of sentence, the court has decided to focus on his main appeal.

Commencement of Hearing

The court has scheduled the hearing on Asaram Bapu’s petition to begin from April 4. This decision comes as the court aims to complete the hearing before the summer vacation to ensure a timely verdict post the vacation period. The move showcases the court’s commitment to expedite the legal proceedings in this high-profile case.

Significance of the Decision

The decision by the Gujarat High Court to fast-track the hearing on Asaram Bapu’s appeal underscores the importance of delivering justice efficiently, especially in cases involving serious offenses like rape. With the victim having endured a prolonged legal battle, the expeditious handling of the appeal brings hope for closure and justice.

  1. An elderly saint stayed behind bar due to an unproven POCSO claim where even medical report and FIR doesn’t mention RAPE. Court is willing to fast track after 10 years. Fast track = 10 years. Wow.

  2. Innocent Saint was framed in fabricated case and he is suffering till now. The biggest crime in India is being Hindu Saints bcoz framing Hindu Saints in fake cases is popular agenda of anti Hindu powers as their motto is destroy hinduism.

Do not know when hindus will understand and will unite to safeguard hinduism and Hindu saints

  3. I would like to appreciate the Gujarat High court for expediting legal proceeding for Hindu saint Asaram Bapu. But the interesting thing is, he has not been given bail since 2013 inspite suffering from various diseases and ailments at the age of 85.

If we see other cases Lalu Yadav Jee, Tarun Tejpal jee, after strong proof also they got bail but without sound evidence Asaram Bapuji’s case is in trial since 10 years because he is ahindu saint.

  4. Bapuji pure nirdosh h. Ladki ki medical report me ek scratch tak ni tha. Day 1 se sabko pata h but phir posco ki wajah se unhe trap karne me kamyab ho gaye aur ab court ko nyay dena chahiye, bahut galat ho raha h.
