Industries Minister Bikram Singh said that the state government is making all efforts to provide employment and self-employment opportunities to the youth of the state as per their educational qualifications in the government and private sectors. He was presiding over the review meeting of the Labour and Employment department here today.

The Minister said that a provision of Rs. 100 crore has been made under the Skill Development Allowance Scheme for the current year. Rs. 56.78 crores were distributed during the financial year 2018-19 by registering 48,520 youth under this scheme. All those youth would be registered under this scheme whose monthly income is less than 15 thousands.

He said all the district employment offices are being converted as model career centres to provide free career counselling and psychometric test facility to the youth. This facility would help the youth to self-evaluate that which career option is suitable and best for them.  So far, four thousand youth have availed the counselling facility and employment has been provided to 300 youth in Shimla district.

Bikram Singh informed that Asian Development Bank has granted Rs. 10.30 crores for opening four model career centres in the state.

He said that seven employment fairs were organised in 2018-19 in which employment was given to 9600 youth in private and public sectors. The department has released the calendar for organising employment fairs during this year in all the districts.

The Minister added that 21,816 beneficiaries of the unorganised sector have been registered so far under Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Mandhan Yojana in the state.

Principal Secretary, Labour and Employment K.K Pant, Labour and Employment Commissioner S.S Guleria and other senior officers of the department were present in the meeting.
