cricket tournment in shimla virbhadra singhINVC, Shimla, Sports promote unity and should be played in true spirit irrespective of politics and ideology said Chief Minister Shri Virbhadra Singh in his presidential address during the closing ceremony of the cricket tournament at Bishop Cotton School organized by Himachal Pradesh Sports, Cultural and Environment Association. He said that the Association was doing a commendable job in promoting sports and culture of the State and was no where linked with politics. Taking a jibe, Shri Virbhadra Singh said that it had been observed that even the marital bonds were made keeping in mind the political affiliations of the families concerned which was not in good taste. He said the government was promoting the sports in a big way for which infrastructural facilities were being provided up to panchayat level. The government was also providing best coaching facilities to the budding players and special emphasis had been laid on promoting rural games. He congratulated the winners, the Governors- XI led by Shri Tarun Shridhar for winning the championship and also distributed prizes to the players of all the teams. Earlier, the Chief Minister was introduced to the players of Chariman’s Board XI and Governors XI by Shri Vikramaditya Singh, the president of Himachal Pradesh Sports, Cultural and Environment Association. Shri Vikramaditya Singh detailed about the tournament and said that many new teams had shown their interest to be part of the tournament next year. Besides, a team of judges of Himachal High Court had also expressed the willingness to participate in the tournament. He conveyed special thanks to Shri Robin Christopher, the Head Master of Bishop Cotton School for facilitating the tournament. Shri Amandeep Garg was adjudged Man of the series for scoring highest runs and remaining not out in the entire series. Shri Sudhir Sharma, Urban Development Minister and Shri Pankaj Rakta, a journalist were given special prizes for scoring centuries. Earlier, Chairman Board XI under the captaincy of Shri Subhash Manglate gave tough fight but lost the final by a narrow margin. Shri Manglate along-with Shri Vivek and Shri Kewal Singh Pathania scored brilliantly making the match interesting. Shri B.B.L. Butail, Speaker, H.P Vidhan Sabha, Shri Mukesh Agnihotri, Industries Minister, Shri I.D Lakhan Pal and Shri Vinay Kumar, Chief Parliamentary Secretaries, Shri Kuldeep Singh Pathania, Chairman, State Pollution Control Board, Shri Harsh Mahajan, Chairman, State Cooperative Bank, Shri Yashwant Chhajta, Vice Chairman, HIMUDA, Shri Sanjay Rattan, Shri Bamber Thakur, Shri Karnesh Jung, Shri Pawan Kajal, Shri Ram Kumar, Shri Mohal Lal Brkata, MLA’s, Shri P.
