Government was exploring possibilities of setting up of Film Studio in the State : Prof. Prem Kumar Dhumal

INVC,, Shimla,, Prof. Prem Kumar Dhumal, Chief Minister said that State Government was exploring possibilities of setting up of Film Studio in the State so as to promote films and tourism in Himachal Pradesh. He said that renowned Film Star Shri Prikshit Sahani has also met him to set up a Film Studio in the name of Shri Balraj Sahani for his contribution for films. He was inaugurating the three-day long First Shimla International Film Festival for Documentary, Short and Animation films, jointly organized by the Films Division, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and Information and Public Relations Department, Himachal Pradesh, at historic Gaiety Theatre, here today. He said that Cinema happens to be the powerful mode of presenting varied aspects of life in a creative manner and guiding the people in the right perspective had to be used cautiously towards constructive activities. Chief Minister said that State Government was committed to promote creative activities and extending all possible assistance to the film producers visiting Himachal for shooting of their films. He said that soon a Theatre Academy and Studio would be set up in Himachal Pradesh by the renowned film actor son of late Shri Bal Raj Sahni to facilitate the shooting of films in the State and polishing the local talent in different film and theatrical productions. He said that Himachal had a long association with the film world as a large number of films had been shot wherein top film stars had performed. He said that the State had produced best actors and to name a few include late Sh. Manohar Singh, Shri Prem Chopra, Smt. Kamini Kaushal, Ms. Preity Zinta and Ms. Kangna Ranaut while the Gaiety Theatre had been the witness to many renowned theatrical presentations by world renowned actors. Prof. Dhumal said that the State had organized National Film Archieves in year 2009 and Indian Panorama Film Festival in year 2010 wherein award winning films were screened to feast the eyes of film lovers. He said that with the organization of 1st International Film Festival the films would regain its fading glory and film lovers would be having a good time in watching the national and international award winning films during the three day long festival in the town. He said that Himachal Pradesh has been blessed by Mother Nature with immense beauty which had been attracting the film producers from different parts of the world to shoot their films in the virgin locations available in the State. He said that with the shooting of films tourism activities also get a boost by providing cinemagoers visuals of different tourist spots. He said that additionally the State Government had also brought out two vital publications, ‘Har Ghar Kuchh Kehta Hai’ and ‘Har Gaon Ki Kahani’ as coffee table books to provide a peep to the people to know about some interesting aspects related to Shimla town and villages in the State. He said that the State Government had been putting best of its efforts to promote different types of tourism activities so that maximum people were attracted to visit Himachal Pradesh. Chief Minister also enjoyed the inaugural films ‘ Little Terrorist’ and ‘Kinnaur’ screened to mark the start of the Festival. Shri Vivek Mohan, National Awardee Documentary Producer and Director expressed happiness over the organization of film festivals which he emphasized needed to be continued so that more such activities were organized in Shimla. He said that it was one of the rare opportunity to the cinema lovers to witness award winning films in their town. Shri V.Packirasami, Director, Films Division of India, welcomed the Chief Minister and presented a brief detail of the itinerary of the three-day long Festival. He said that Oscar and other National Award documentaries, short and animation films would be screened. He said that films were the powerful visual mode of moulding the public opinion towards constructive activities. He said that India happened to be the land of fertile minds to produce world class documentary, short and animation films and the Festival would provide cinema lovers opportunity to witness them in Shimla. Shri B.D. Sharma, Director of Information and Public Relations, proposed vote of thanks and said that the series of film festivals were gaining momentum as it was emerging a regular feature in the state capital. He hoped that the Film Festival would be a feast to the eyes of cinemagoers where world class films would be screened. Shri Ganesh Dutt, Vice Chairman, HIMUDA, Smt. Manisha Nanda, Principal Secretary, Tourism and LAC, Shri Ram Subhag Singh, Secretary, Information and Public Relations, Shri Sonal Agnihotri, Superintendent of Police, other dignitaries of the town and a large assembly of cinema lovers were witness to the inaugural ceremony.
