Government Establishes Specialized Panel to Address Challenges Faced by LGBTQ+ Individuals

New Delhi : The Center has constituted a committee headed by the Cabinet Secretary to look into the issues of the LGBTQ+ community. On October 17 last year, the Supreme Court had asked the Center to constitute a high-powered committee to look into the issues of the LGBTQ+ community, in compliance with which this committee has been constituted.

According to the notification, the committee will look into the issues related to the community and suggest steps to the Central and State Governments to ensure access of goods and services to the LGBTQ+ community without any discrimination. This committee will also examine the steps to be taken so that the LGBTQ+ community does not have to face the threat of violence, harassment etc.

Union Home Secretary, Legislative Secretary, Health Secretary, Women and Child Development Secretary and Social Justice and Empowerment Secretary are the members of this committee. According to the notification, the committee can also take help of experts and other officials if needed.
