It is believed that since then the festival of Gopashtami is being celebrated on Kartik Shukla Ashtami.

Gopashtami Puja Method-
Wake up in the morning on Gopashtami and bathe the cows and then do the attractive makeup of Gaumata. Worship the cows with scent-flowers etc. and then after taking off their aarti, one should greet them with folded hands and honor them by giving gifts etc. to the cowherds. After this, the cow should be circumambulated with the whole family and fed green fodder. After feeding green fodder, go with them for a short distance.

When the cows come back in the evening, worship them by applying sandalwood, offering flowers and showing incense. After that give them something to eat. In the end, apply the soil of the feet of the mother cow on the head. By doing this, luck increases. Let us tell you that if there is no cow in the house, then calling the cow at the main gate of the house and bathing them gives renewable virtue.
