Ganga Dussehra 2023 : Ganga Saptami is celebrated every year in the month of Vaishakh and Ganga Dussehra in the month of Jyeshtha. Both the festivals have different significance. It is said that on the day of Ganga Saptami, Mother Ganga descended in Lord Shiva’s hair and after that she descended on earth on Ganga Dussehra. In the year 2023, Ganga Dussehra festival day will be celebrated on Tuesday, 30 May 2023. This time Ganga Dussehra festival will be celebrated in Hasta Nakshatra and in Vyatipat Yoga.

Importance- According to the scriptures, Jyeshtha Shukla Dashami is called Dussehra. Bathing, donation and fasting have special significance in this. On this day Ganga had descended from heaven to earth, hence it is considered a great virtuous festival. Shri Ganga Dussehra festival is celebrated every year on the tenth day of Shukla Paksha of Jyestha month.

According to mythological beliefs, by taking a dip in the river Ganges on these occasions, all the sins of a man are washed away and salvation is attained. For this festival, special worship is done at other temples including Ganga temples. Gangajal is considered the most sacred, which is used the most in worship.

According to Puranas, Ganga Dussehra is the main festival of Hindus. Ganga bath has special significance on this day. Ganga Dussehra is the time when Mother Ganga descended on earth while Ganga Jayanti (Ganga Saptami) is the day when Ganga re-emerged on earth.

On the day of Ganga Dussehra, Lord Bholenath is anointed in all the Ganga temples and Mokshadayini Ganga is worshipped. According to belief, by worshiping and bathing in the Ganges, you get riddhi-siddhi, fame-respect and salvation.
