GADVASU contributes to Commemorate World Environment Day

NSS volunteers/students of GADVASU made environment awareness campaign in the university campus in collaboration with Society for Conservation of Flora and Fauna (SCFF). They organized a plantation drive and anti-food wastage campaign rally under the supervision of Dr Syed Shabih Hassan, NSS Programme Coordinator. NSS wing of GADVASU has envisaged 30,000 sapling plantation in college/university campus as well as Govt./private school/college campuses in Ludhiana during this season in collaboration with an NGO. First initial sapling plantation of this season was planted by Dr P. D. Juyal, Registrar, GADVASU and Dr Asha Dhawan, Dean, College of Fisheries. They gave warm welcome and addressed NSS volunteers on environmental issues as well as encouraged sapling plantation. NSS volunteers planted more than 110 saplings of Murraya, Kamini, single Chandni, double Chandni, Araucaria, Christmas plant, Bel plant, climbers, Phycus, many shrubs and shaded trees in the campus of College of Fisheries on the occasion of World Environment Day. In this connection a rally started from PAU gate No.3 around 7.45 am and walked in queue up to College of Fisheries campus, Ludhiana. More than 100 NSS volunteers/students of College of Fisheries (COF) and College of Dairy Science and Technology (CODST) participated in the rally. NSS volunteers holding charts, posters and printed banners on cleanliness, plantation drive and anti-food wastage campaign. The volunteers holed banners having slogans and raised voice for making the people aware and conscious about cleanliness, tree plantation and anti-food wastage. NSS wing of GADVASU also conducted a seminar on the theme “Think, Eat and Save”. Dr Juyal stressed on self awakening, reduce food and water wastage and presence of mind to protect the environment. Dr Dhawan highlighted anti-food and water wastage, online ticket reservation and use of backside of the paper to save papers. Dr S.P.S. Sangha, DSW-cum-EO, GADVASU was also present on the occasion. Dr Hassan also explained the advantages of anti-food wastage, tree plantation and highlighted the foundation of World Environment Day by United Nations Conference. He informed that NSS volunteers has adopted slogan “Each One Plant One” and “3R” (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle) in the university campus as well as adjoining environment of the university in Ludhiana.
