French Cities Ravaged by Protests: Buildings Set Ablaze, Shops Looted

Paris : Violence in France is not taking the name of stopping. Here, however, the teenager, who was killed in police firing, was buried on Saturday. The incident was followed by widespread protests on the fourth night despite heavy security arrangements. Many scenes of arson and looting are visible here. During this, 1,311 people were arrested across the country. French President Emmanuel Macron has canceled a visit to Germany in the wake of violent protests. The French Interior Ministry said that 45,000 policemen have been deployed across the country to stop the violence. A total of 2,400 people have been arrested by police since the start of the protests on Tuesday night. More than half of these arrests took place on the fourth night of violence.

Appealing for peace, President Macron appealed to the parents to keep their children at home. Despite this, protesters torched several vehicles and buildings and looted shops in various cities.

According to security officials, youth protesters clashed with the police throughout the night. Around 2,500 shops were vandalized and set ablaze by the protesters at various places. Violence in France has had an impact on Macron’s visit to Germany. The office of German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier said Macron called on Saturday to request the postponement of his first state visit to Germany. Significantly, Macron was about to leave for Germany on Sunday evening.

This would have been the first state visit by a French President to Germany in 23 years. Macron’s office said the president spoke to Steinmeier and said he wanted to stay in France in the coming days, given the security situation in the country. Meanwhile, a final farewell was held for teenager Nahel, who was killed in police firing in the suburb of Nanterre. A large number of people lined the streets as the coffin was brought to the cemetery.

Violence has spread from Paris to Marseille and Lyon after the incident, injuring hundreds of policemen and firefighters. Earlier, Nahel’s mother Mounia M told Me Dia that she is very angry with the police officer who killed her child.

He looked somewhat like the Arab children, they said. That officer wanted to kill Nahel. Kishore’s family heritage is linked to Algeria.
