Indira Gandhi National Open University, Regional Centre, Lucknow has taken responsibility to educate Acid Attack Survivors working Shiroz Café, Gomti Nagar, Lucknow in order to ensure their skill development. University gave admission to 10 Acid Attack Survivors free of cost. Regional Centre, Lucknow organized a Awareness Programme in the Café and informed the survivors about the importance of education and skill development. Functionaries of the Café Participated in this workshop and praised the efforts taken by IGNOU.

Dr. Kirti Vikram Singh, Assistant Regional Director informed that the University has given admission to the survivors in Certificate in Food & Nutrition Programme. This six month Certificate Programme lays primary emphasis on Nutrition with relevance to present day scenario related to food adulteration, consumer rights, safety and education, cost effectiveness, environment friendly approaches that reaches to almost the entire nation, hence enhancing the skills of the learners. He added that this programme will not only be beneficial for the survivors in their present employment, but will also provide them the opportunity of self-employment in food sectors.

Dr. Manorama Singh, Regional Director informed that the objective of the University is to provide education especially to those people who are deprived, so that they can be brought in the main stream of development. The counselling classes related to this programme will be organized in the café itself and so that the survivors will get a chance to learn while they are employed. She added that counselling sessions will also be organized through Gyanvani FM Channel of IGNOU time to time. She informed that programme fee has been paid by the University officials as well as the IGNOU Study Centre – 2732, UPTEC.

Programme Incharge IGNOU Study Centre – 2732, UPTEC, Shri Amit Bajpai and Shri Abhay Singh, Coordinator, Shiroz were present in the programme. The promise to give full support to IGNOU in conduction of this programme.
