Four years rigorous imprisonment with fine of Rs. 51,000/- to private person for causing a loss of Rs. 11.80 lakh

downloadINVC, Delhi, The Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Chennai (Tamil Nadu) has convicted Shri S.Murali, a private person in a cheating case and sentenced him to undergo four years Rigorous Imprisonment with fine of Rs. 51,000/-. CBI had registered a case against a Chennai based private person Shri S.Murali and two others, all three Directors of M/s Tele Data Networking Serviced (P) Ltd, on the allegations that the said three accused persons entered into criminal conspiracy to cheat Government by way of illegally switching over incoming international calls as local calls, and thus causing loss of Rs.11,80,518.00 to Government of India in its share of revenue. During investigation, it was established that the accused persons obtained incoming international call lines from Department of Telecommunications, now known as BSNL from Mambalam Exchange by misrepresenting that the lines would be used for business purpose, and installed a system using sophisticated equipments by which all the incoming International calls illegally routed through this set up were treated as local calls by Mambalam Exchange. On completion of trial, Shri S.Murali (a private person) was found guilty and convicted by Court.
