FLO honors golden girls

New Delhi, FICCI Ladies Organisation (FLO) , the women business wing of FICCI here today organised an interactive session titled ‘Breaking the Boundaries’ with golden girls of Indian cricket Mithali Raj and Jhulan Goswami and felicitated them. Rahul Dravid, Former Indian cricket captain felicitating both Mithali Raj and  Jhulan Goswami , who have led the Indian Cricket team to the finals of the World Cup 2017 and created a defining moment in the history of women’s cricket in India during the interactive session. “The wide publicity on Social Media and live coverage of ICC world Cup on television has changed dynamics of women’s cricket in India The visibility in this World Cup was immense. We got more followers. We couldn’t get this momentum earlier,” Said Mithali Raj, Captain of the Indian  women cricket team who led India at ICC cup whle speaking on the occasion. “While things are looking up for women’s cricket in the country there still are a few issues plaguing sportswomen. “The career of a sportsperson is usually short. For women there is also the challenge of marriage and family. It is more of gamble , one can fail or succeed” said Ms Jhulan Goswami, the All rounder and highest wicket taker in the ICC cup while speaking on the occasion. “ Recent Success of women in various sports including cricket, hockey, badminton , boxing and other sports  has created lot of role models. emphasising the importance of education, he stressed on the need to strike a balance between cricket and academics. When you are playing you should give your 100% and the moment you open your books, you should switch off cricket. Thinking about cricket 24x7 will drain you out. Pursuits other than cricket help you relax.” Said Former Indian cricket team captain Rahul Dravid and present Indian team batting coach. He welcomed the new batting code on thickness of bat as some players were found using too thick and broad bats. “It is the quality  pitch and ground which matter in cricket no the bat “ he said “FICCI Ladies Organisation (FLO) believes that successful women must be recognized not only because they deserve to but also it encourages other women to face all odds and emerge victorious and confident. It is especially true when Indian women are breaking all stereotypes and bringing laurels to our country in the field of cricket, which has been always considered as a male bastion.” Said Ms Vasvi Bharat Ram, President, FICCI Ladies Organisation(FLO), while speaking on the occasion. “ FLO  believes that to achieve the holistic goal of women empowerment, more and more women needs to engage in sports and equal opportunities should be created for them in this arena.” Said Ms Bharat Ram “Felicitation of the Two women cricketer’s  has been organised Under the aegis of FLO ‘WE Initiative’, which stands for Women Empowerment, the objective of this session is to recognise the success stories of true achievers and provide a platform for women and youth, to be inspired by them. WE in Sports is for  Women Empowerment is Sports which is the need of the hour. Our endeavour is to stand powerful as an inspiring, empowering and impactful voice for change. FLO this year is initiating work towards policy change and change in the mind-sets within the society to create an enabling environment for in-discriminated participation of women in sports.” Ms Bharat Ram added. On the side-lines of the felicitation ceremony, a panel discussion was organised with the 3 cricketers, Mitali Raj,  Jhulan Goswami and Rahul Dravid, wherein they shared their journey in the cricket world and discussed about possible ways to create a roadmap for sports to evolve as crucial tool for women empowerment. Archana Vijaya, celebrity cricket presenter moderated the session and also shared her journey in the cricket industry.
