Five years rigorous imprisonment to then deputy chief controller of explosives, petroleum & explosive safety organisation and three years ri to then income tax officer in separate cases

INVC NEWS New Delhi, The Special Judge, CBI Cases, Chandmari, Guwahati(Assam) has convicted Shri Anil Kumar Kunj, then Deputy Chief Controller of Explosives, Petroleum & Explosive Safety Organisation(PESO), Guwahati in a bribery case and sentenced him to undergo five years Rigorous Imprisonment with a fine of Rs.20,000/-. CBI had registered a case on 12.02.2013 U/s 7 of PC Act against Shri Anil Kumar Kunj on a complaint alleging demand of Rs.35,000/- as illegal gratification from the complainant for endorsement of an explosive licence. The licence was granted from the Explosive Department, Kolkata which was inspected by the accused and was pending for his endorsement. CBI laid a trap and caught the accused red handed while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs.35,000/-. After investigation, a charge sheet was filed against the accused in the Designated Court. In another case, the Special Judge, CBI Cases, Raipur (Chhattisgarh) has sentenced Shri Dilip Kumar Das, then Income Tax Officer, Raipur in a case of possession of disproportionate assets, to undergo three years Rigorous Imprisonment with fine of Rs. 5,00,000/-. CBI had registered the case against the accused on 11.05.2011. The accused was caught red handed by CBI while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000/- from the complainant for settling his income tax assessment matter. During investigation of the bribery case, searches in the premises of accused were conducted which led to recovery of huge assets besides incriminating documents. CBI investigation revealed that Shri Dilip Kumar Das during the period 22-11-2001 to 13-01-2011 had acquired disproportionate assets worth approximately Rs 1,62,64,828/- to his known sources of income. The percentage of disproportionate assets was calculated to the tune of approximately 488 percent. After investigation, a charge sheet was filed against the accused on 25-5-2012 in the Court of Special Judge, CBI Cases, Raipur. The Trial Courts found the two accused guilty and convicted them in separate cases.
