On the directions of a court, the police has registered a case against relatives of former Haryana Director General of Police (DGP) Nirmal Singh for allegedly torturing and demanding dowry from their daughter-in-law.  The victim, a resident of Sector 4, Panchkula, has alleged that the DGP’s London-based nephew Kanwar Sameer used to beat her up for dowry. The victim stated that she was left here and her passport was snatched away by her in-laws.  The court has asked the police to book the DGP’s sister, brother-in-law, nephew and niece. The victim alleged that the police was not arresting the accused. It was also stated that to torture her, her head was dipped in a tub of water. Finding no action from the women cell, the victim had moved the court following which the police was directed to lodge an FIR.
