Every Progarm of Muncipal Corporation will be organized on the theme Save the Girl Child : Subhash Chawla
INVC,, Delhi,, As part of a major societal initiative for promoting Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment, the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation Mayor Sh. Subhash Chawla, today inaugurated the function on “National Girl Child Day” “Save the Girl Child “ organized by National Rural Health Mission , Chandigarh for Gender Sensitization and Removing Girl Child Discrimination’ at an impressive function at Bal Bhawan , Sector 23 , Chandigarh . Sh. Rajiv Vadhera (Director Health Services), Dr. G. Dewan (DMS), Program Officers, medical professionals, NSS Students and senior officers of the Administration were present on the occasion. On the occasion, Sh. Subhash Chawla said that there is a need for a mass movement, for generating public opinion against the unethical practice of female foeticide and activating social pressure groups of concerned people to sensitize violators and unscrupulous parents, with a preference for male children. Strongly advocating the need for a detailed analysis and serious introspection, Sh. Chawla said that, in our ancient civilization, every religion has professed the concept of Gender Equality and recognized the importance of women in our social system. He said that Government should provide a reservation in Government job so that girl can make self-reliance and remove the discrimination between male and female. He said that every programs of the municipal corporation will be organized during this year on the theme of the “Save the Girl Child” and dedicated to the female. On the occasion Dr . Sangeeta Ajay , Nodal officer , NRHM . presented a poem on the save the girl Child “ JEEO BITIA” . One wonderful skit on the theme of “ Abortion “ Lachhu ki Shaddi was also staged. Dr. Rajiv Vadhera, Director Health Services U.T Chandigarh while speaking on the occasion said that we shall work to ensure the survival of unborn girls and a life of dignity and self-reliance for our daughters. He apprised the audience that during “Save the Girl Child” week, about 2.50 stickers have been pasted in the front of the houses by NRHM Chd through activists deputed on pulse polio duty for creating the awareness among the people regarding the mail female ratio. This programme focused on the collective endeavour of various government and nongovernment organizations to fight against female foeticide and enhance social status of women folk. Sh. Subhash Chawla impressed upon the participants, the need to show care, concern, compassion and deep involvement in this Gender Equality Programme and work collectively for narrowing down the gap, of discrimination between male and female child.
