Establishment of Committee to study the implementation of the forest rights Act 2006

INVC,, Committee to study and assess the impacts of the scheduled tribes and other traditional forest dwellers (recognition of forest rights) Act, 2006, with regards to the Sustainable Management of Forest Resources has been constituted. A notification has been issued here today with constitution and the Terms of Reference of the Committee. The Committee shall submit its report within three months from the date of its constitution

The Ministry of Environment and Forests and the Ministry of Tribal Affairs has jointly constituted this high level committee of experts to look at the issues of implementation, sustainable forest management and the protection/settlement of the rights of forest dwellers in detail. Earlier during two meetings, the implications of the Forest Rights Act on sustainable forest management was discussed where high level representatives from the Ministry of Environment and Forests and the Secretary of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs participated. The first meeting was chaired by the Minister of Environment and Forests, Mr. Jairam Ramesh.
