A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Government of Himachal Pradesh and the Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) regarding the transfer of ESIC medical college at Mandi to the Government of Himachal Pradesh in presence of Chief Minister Shri Virbhadra Singh, Health Minister, Shri Kaul Singh Thakur and Panchayati Raj Minister, Shri Anil Sharma.
The MoU was signed by Principal Secretary, Health, Shri Prabodh Saxena on behalf of government of Himachal Pradesh and ESIC Regional Director, Shri Ashok Chandra & Senior State Medical Commissioner, ESIC, Dr. Gunjan Gupta on behalf of ESIC.
Chief Parliamentary Secretary, Shri Nand Lal along with Chief Secretary, Shri V.C. Pharka were also present on the occasion.
The ESIC was constructed at a total cost of Rs 924.82 crore which has been leased out to State government for 99 years. The State government has to refund a sum of Rs. 285.23 crore in five annual installments beginning after two years from the start of the college.
There will be 100 MBBS seats for the college.
The college complex has four blocks, a library, a five storey administrative block, a nursing college and seven museums. It is equipped with 500 bed facility and 40 beds in causality, having 12 modular operation theaters with facility of auto-transfer of medicines, injections, samples from store to wards and operation theaters (OTs) with help of laser system. Besides, one major OT and two minor OTs are attached to emergency.
It also has 371 residential units for faculty and staff, 300 rooms boys hostel and 200 rooms girls hostel. In additions to this resident doctors hostel, interns hostel, nursing hostel and a nursing students hostel are separately built. The ESIC College also houses a Sarai (inn) for patients, a gym, an indoor badminton stadium, a small shopping complex and a huge parking.
