Inaugurating a day long medical conference, Emedinews-Revisiting 2009, Sh. S.Y. Quraishi, Election Commissioner of India said that educating the general public about prevention of lifestyle diseases can reduce mortality and morbidity of most diseases in the country. Giving an example, he said that consumption of Gur and Chana once in a week by young girls and married women during child producing age can reduce both maternal mortality and infant mortality rates. Clarifying further, Shri Qureshi said that Gud contains iron and Chana contains proteins both of which are responsible for anemia in this age group.
Guest of the Honour for the function, Dr. Naresh Trehan, Chairman Medanta Group said that medical tourism has now become a reality in our country. In the next five years, more than 20% of the medical business in the country will be from medical tourism. He said that there is no other country which can provide treatment at par with the West at fraction of a cost.
