Known as the chief architect of the Indian Constitution, Dr. Ambedkar’s statue in Maryland, Washington, stands as the largest representation of him outside India.
A Gathering to Remember The unveiling ceremony saw participation from over 500 Indian-origin individuals, who came together to pay homage to the iconic leader. The atmosphere was charged with emotion as attendees chanted “Jai Bhim” – a slogan that resonates with Ambedkar’s ideals and the movement he led. Notably, some enthusiasts even undertook a 10-hour journey, braving inclement weather, to be part of this momentous occasion.
The Mastermind Behind the Sculpture The statue is the work of renowned sculptor Ram Sutar, who is no stranger to crafting massive, awe-inspiring structures. He was also the mastermind behind the world-famous “Statue of Unity” in Gujarat, India, which pays tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and holds the title of the world’s tallest statue.
