The Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal, today asked the people not to allow anyone to mislead them. Better analyse for yourself what happened during the previous regimes and what the present government is doing. They should draw the difference and spread awareness among all sections of the society.
The Chief Minister was addressing a largely attended district-level Baba Saheb Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar Jayanti celebrations at Kurukshetra today.
Taking a dig at the Opposition, he said Bharat Ratna should have been awarded to Dr. Ambedkar immediately after he wrote our Constitution. But he got the award in 1991. The first Bharat Ratna was instead given to Pt Jawahar Lal Nehru in 1955 when he was the Prime Minister. This underscores the pick and choose policy adopted by the then ruling party, he added.
Similarly, Indira Gandhi was awarded Bharat Ratna when she became Prime Minister in 1971. Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel, who worked for the political unity of the country, got this award in 1990, 39 years after his demise in 1951.
Mr Manohar Lal said Dr Ambedkar worked for the upliftment of poor sections of the society. He also gave up the post of Law Minister for the service to the mankind.
When Baba Saheb requested the government to provide financial help for getting his book printed, the then Prime Minister Pt Jawaharlal Nehru refused to give any help. It is ridiculous that today they are talking about Baba Saheb, he added.
