What is the best relief from spicy food?  Is eating celery a way to lose weight? What stains your teeth the fastest – is it tea, cola, coffee or wine?  Is it possible for food to have negative calories?  If you’ve got questions, Discovery Science has the answers.

Discovery Science’s new series FOOD DETECTIVES will invade your kitchens and use science to find the truth behind all those niggling food questions. Pick up your knives and forks for this truly amazing concoction of lip-smacking food and the ever-curious science.

Premiering on February 10, the 23-part series FOOD DETECTIVES will air every Thursday at 8:30 p.m. on Discovery Science.

Rahul Johri, senior vice president & general manager – India, Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific said,Discovery Science reports on the marriage of science and everyday life with an eye toward what’s new and why it matters. Changing the way people think about food, this new Discovery Science series will be a deliciously fun ride about food.”

Hosted by food and wine connoisseur and eminent author and television personality Ted Allen, FOOD DETECTIVES will offer culinary expertise mixed with the element of mirth. Allen will call on the help of culinary techs backed by the researchers at Popular Science magazine to conduct experiments behind food myths and investigate longest standing ideas relating to food.

Science meets food as Ted Allen and his band of culinary sleuths unravel some of the most intriguing food mysteries ever, exploring a range of food related beliefs. Does an apple a day keep the doctor away? What’s the deal with the five-second rule? Does turkey really make you sleep? Can cola dissolve a penny or even a tooth, and just how sanitary are lemon buckets at the local restaurant? Is it true that crunching on carrots can improve your vision? How long it takes the stomach to digest gum? And, your parents probably told you if you blow out all of the birthday candles you supposedly get your wish.
