Digitalization is boom for today but may be curse for tomorrow : Prof. Sharma

The World renowned Information Technology Professor and International Consultant to ILO (An Agency of United Nations) Geneva, Dr. DP Sharma inaugurated an international conference on the theme of “Digitalization& Rural Development in North East India: Issues, Challenges and way Forward at Assam Central University Silchar, Assam. The three-day Conference seeks to examine and explore the future of digitalization for rural development in North East Indian states.

Speaking on the occasion as Keynote Speaker, Prof Sharma said that he is happy to be the part of this scholarly event. He congratulated and complimented the initiative for blending of technology with social and economic affairsfor livelihood with dignity and justice in rural India.

He emphasized that every technology as its basic objective from the very beginninghas two sides’ alongwithtechnological research, development, and innovations. He said that today we need to rethink and reanalyze the boom of digitalization which seems to be a misuse of Information and Communication Technologies through social media.

He talked about excess use, pros and cons of mobile phones and said these days everybody is hooked to mobiles in morning rather than praying, and mentioned that nothing is permanent except change and we need to change ourselves with respect to time and technology. He suggested that our day should start with prayers like make me happy, or do not make me the cause of anyone’s unhappiness. By quoting his research he outlined the severe impact of e-mailing, forwarding messages on what’s App etc. on the environment by contributing to increase in CO2 emissions.

On the occasion Vice Chancellor of the university Prof Dileep Chandra welcomed the guests. The conference was organized in joint association with Bangladesh Study Center. The Deputy High Commissioner of the Bangladesh Mr. Jokey Ahad also addressed the conference and said that India’s contribution in liberation of Bangladesh is unforgettable.
