Delhi Police Recruitment 2023: 6000 policemen including 50 percent women will be appointed

Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena chaired the 18th meeting of the Task Force on Women’s Safety on Thursday. He instructed to complete the arrangement of street lights on time for police readiness and illumination at all crime prone points (dock spots) at all times. During this, the Delhi Police informed him that soon 6000 policemen including 3000 women would be appointed. In the meeting, the Lt Governor said that it is necessary to increase the presence of the police everywhere, saying that crime would reduce and people would feel safe. On the appointment of judges in the fast track courts, the Lieutenant Governor was informed that 32 judges have been appointed in these courts.

While the PWD raised the issue of shortage of courtrooms, the LG expressed concern over the delay in important matters like construction of infrastructure in courts and said that he would take it up with the Chief Minister. With the early completion of the projects, the judicial processes regarding women’s safety will also be expedited. The PWD informed the Lt Governor that the matter for construction of court halls is pending with the Delhi government since 2017-18.
The matter regarding replacement of PWD street lights with LEDs and installation of uniform lighting everywhere is also pending with the Delhi Government. Objecting to the inordinate delay, the LG directed the PWD to expedite the work and said that he would take up the issue with the Chief Minister in the next review meeting.

The Lieutenant Governor said in the meeting that there is a need to increase the number and presence of police for women’s safety and crime prevention. To reduce crime, a change in mindset and basic attitude of men towards women is necessary. Education Departments and agencies need to implement revised curriculum to encourage campaigns to sensitize youth and adolescents through gender workshops.
