Data Dissemination Workshop “Censusinfo’’ Concludes

A two-day Data Dissemination Workshop “Censusinfo” to sensitize the data users about the availability  and use of Census 2011 data released so far concluded at Mahatama Gandhi Institute of Public Administration today. The workshop was organized  by Directorate of Census Operations, Chandigarh (UT) with fund support from UNFA and UNWOMEN.  Ms. T.N. Bindhyeshwari, Director Census Operations, Chandigarh addressing the workshop today said the workshop is organized with a view to discussing the analysis of data on Housing, Household Amenities and Assets and also to impart training on Censusinfo Software which is a tool for data dissemination. She said the Houselisting and Housing Census has immense utility as it provides comprehensive data on conditions of human settlements, housing deficit which can be redressed by formulation of housing policies on housing data. She  said Censusinfo is an innovative and flexible database technology used for dissemination of Population and Housing Census results. The software has been developed by the United Nations Statistics Division in partnership with UNICEF and UNFPA to help countries disseminate their census results at any relevant geographical level on CDROM & on the web.  Ms Bindhyeswari further said that Censusinfo India on Housing, Household Amenities and Assets from Census 2011would provide access to this data set on a number of indicators at state and district level. The user would be able to extract informations  quite easily and generate charts and maps by way of visualization of the data. The workshop was attended by Census Data users, officials from various Government Departments, NGOs, Research scholars, Academicians and media persons.
