The BJP strongly condemn the manner in which the Prime Minister Shri Manmohan Singh and Finance Minister P. Chidambaram are trying to gag the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).  The Congress led UPA Government cannot perpetuate fraud and impropriety in the name of policy making.  His statement should also be construed as a veiled signal to the Judiciary. The UPA Government sold the scarce resource of 2G spectrum in 2008 at the rate prevailing in 2001.  The UPA built corruption into a policy and is now taking refuge that CBI should not investigate into policy issues. Similarly, UPA Government decided in the Cabinet in 2006 to auction the coal blocks.  But, it went ahead with arbitrary allocations of 17 billion tonnes of coal reserves worth Rs 50 lakh crore to over 140 private companies by deliberately delaying the auction bill.  Thus, UPA has become the pass master in weaving corruption into the system under the garb of policy. The Congress is synonymous with corruption and as such indulged into several monumental corruptions. As a government they tried to cover up all the corruption scams. The then Law Minister was caught red-handed for vetting and changing the CBI status report despite clear cut directions of the Supreme Court. Ultimately he had to resign. The PMO’s audacity goes further to send a Joint Secretary level officer to the CBI to alter the status report to protect the Prime Minister.  The worst is the Prime Minister’s attempt to justify growing corruption by correlating it with economic growth. Also condemnable is the Government’s reluctance on ensuring autonomy to CBI.  Faith in the CBI comes from its autonomy.  Why would they (Congress leaders) want autonomy to CBI has the Congress has been misusing the CBI to shield itself and its allies like SP and the BSP from corruption. Had the Congress government and its ministers ensured transparency, accountability and probity in each and every policy measure they had taken, scams like 2G, Coalgate, CWG, etc would not have happened.  Thus it would be better if the Congress sheds its hypocrisy at once.
