Committed to workers being partners in the country’s progress: PM

The Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, along with the Finance Minister and the Minister for Labour and Employment met a delegation of the INTUC led by Dr. G. Sanjeeva Reddy, MP including Shri M. Raghavalah, Shri G. Kalan, Shri S.Q. Zama and Shri R. Chandrasekharan.

The INTUC leaders impressed upon the Prime Minister the need to ensure that the workers get their fair share and are protected against problems arising due to the slow down in growth. The Prime Minister assured the delegation that the Government gives the highest priority to inclusive growth and is committed to ensuring that workers in the organized as well as the unorganized sectors are partners in the progress of the country. The INTUC delegation gave a memorandum to the Prime Minister who directed the Ministry of Labour and Employment to constitute a Group including the representatives of the Ministries of Finance and Industry to examine the issues raised in the memorandum and give recommendations on how to address them.
