The second 500 MW unit of Vallur Thermal Power Project of NTPC Tamil Nadu Energy Co. Ltd. (NTECL), a JV of NTPC Ltd. and TANGEDCO, has started commercial operation w.e.f. 00:00 Hrs of 25.08.2013. On completion, Vallur will have installed capacity of 1500 MW with three units of 500 MW each. Presently 1000 MW is in operation at the project, one more 500 MW unit is expected to go on stream this financial year. Shri I. j. Kapoor , Director (Comml) visited the project recently and witnessed the loading of coal from ship to the pipe conveyor at the port. He also visited CWC Pump house , switch yard, desalination plant areas of the project and the control room with Shri Subhash Muley , CEO , NTECL and senior officials. The project will help in improving the power scenario of southern states especially Tamil Nadu.
