CM LAUNCHES ELECTRONIC TOURISM CATALOGUE

INVC,, Shimla,, Prof. Prem Kumar Dhumal, Chief Minister, today launched electronic catalogue on Tourism in Himachal Pradesh here today. He congratulated the Department of Tourism and Civil Aviation for emerging the First State in the country to launch Electronic Tourism Catalogue. Chief Minister said that tourism happened to be the basic industry of the State for being the naturally best to cater to the tourism requirements of different categories of visitors. He said that Himachal Pradesh was the only State which had one or the other attraction to suit the taste and demand of the visitors. He said that in the age of information technology such an electronic version of catalogue was the need of the hour. He said that Himachal Pradesh had emerged round the year tourist destination, since barring tribal areas of Lahaul and Pangi valleys which remained cut off due to heavy snow on Passes during winter, the entire State had been made accessible by road. He said that construction of 9 kms. long Rohtang Tunnel was in progress and with its completion Lahaul and Pangi areas would also be approachable during winter season as well. He said that Himachal Pradesh was also an unique example of unity in diversity since every area had its distinctive identity, due to its rich culture and traditions. He said that the State Government had introduced Home Stay scheme aimed at acquainting the visitors with the life style, eating habits, customs and traditions of the rural areas. He said that the scheme was gaining popularity with enthusiasts who intended to spend some time in complete solitude, enjoying the traditional hospitality of Himachal Pradesh. Prof. Dhumal said that electronic catalogue would be showcasing the tourism potential available in the state and also guide them to visit places of their choice to spend holidays. He said that brief information about the important places of tourist interest would be available in the catalogue and facilities available to help visitors plan their holiday schedule accordingly. He said that printed versions of the catalogues would also be available in the marketing offices of the tourism department. He said that geographically Himachal Pradesh is placed above all others and similarly it would be maintaining its status in tourism as well and make Himachal Pradesh incredible in all respects by giving boost to tourism activities so that large number of people could visit. Dr. Arun Sharma, Director of Tourism and Civil Aviation, detailed out the contents of the Electronic Catalogue and said that video footage had also been added to in the catalogue besides important information to the tourists. Dr. Manoj Sharma, Joint Director, Tourism said that it was for the first time that tourism promotion activities were being carried out through different modes of communication to reach every potential visitor to come to Himachal. Smt. Rajwant Sandhu, Chief Secretary, Shri Bhim Sen, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Dr. P.C.Kapoor, Principal Secretary, PWD, Smt. Manisha Nanda, Principal Secretary, Tourism, Shri Vineet Kumar, Managing Director, H.P Tourism Development Corporation and other senior officers were present on the occasion.
