The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Northern Region organised a one-day workshop titled‘Campus to Corporate’ at its premises in Chandigarh on Thursday. The participants includedlower to middle-level management, executives, trainees and students of institutes, colleges and universities.

The workshop – conducted by corporate trainer and leadership coach Vijay Batra – was aimed at providing new entrants into the corporate world a glimpse of the challenges that lay ahead, while trying to infuse experienced corporate employees with the enthusiasm and drive of fresh recruits in the field – a right mixture of ‘hosh’ and ‘josh’, as Batra proclaimed. The day-long workshop focussed on three critical areas of the corporate world – ability (knowledge application), capability (knowledge acquisition) and willingness (desire for advancement) – with its theme being CREATE (Creativity, Result, Energy, Attitude, Trust and Engagement).

Divided into four sessions – Academic Corporate Relations; Managing Internal Expectations; Structuring Your Corporate Relations Organisation for Success; andInnovations and Variables: Strategies for Increasing Effectiveness – the workshop had about 40 participants from nine companies and six educational institutions, including Ranbaxy Labs, Gripwell Tools, Coaltech India, Rockman Industries, Solrex Pharma, Intex Technologies, IABM Bikaner, MIMT Malout and ITI Nalagarh.

Having worked in India, Japan and the US over extended periods of time, Batra brought about a unique blend of Indian, American and Japanese corporate styles in the conduct of his workshop. He has interacted with more than two lakh participants in over 2,000 workshops in India and abroad, such as Indonesia, UAE and Thailand. With the CII itself, he has conducted about 50 workshops, mostly around the region, with the hope of holding more in southern India.
