Chit Fund scam; CBI arrested 4

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has said that they have arrested three others, including former Kolkata Deputy Registrar of Companies and founder director and regional manager of private companies, during further investigation in a case related to the chit fund scam. The CBI had immediately registered a case against the then Managing Director of a private company and others in compliance with the orders of the Supreme Court and took over the investigation of the earlier registered case at Baliapal Police Station, Balasore (Odisha).

It was alleged that the accused collected public deposits illegally all over Odisha to lure people with various deposit schemes and made false promises of high returns and did not return the maturity amount and thereby to the investors their dues. cheated by the amount.

The company’s total collection was around Rs 565 crore.

Two chargesheets were filed in this case in the Bhubaneswar court in 2016 and in November 2021.

Further investigation was on to look into the larger conspiracy, money trail and the roles of regulatory authorities.

During further investigation, it was revealed that the accused (private person) had allegedly linked himself to the illegal Ponzi schemes named in the FIR and allegedly made huge money for himself from the deposits collected illegally by the said private company. There was also economic benefit.

Subha Kumar Banerjee, the then deputy registrar of companies of Kolkata, had allegedly facilitated the illegal deposit collection business of the accused.

Besides him, the CBI has arrested Laxman Srinivasan, the then founder director of Fimshore Management Services Ltd, Swapan Kumar Dey, the then regional manager of Star Health Insurance, and Uttam Munshi. PLC/GT
