Chandigarh Rose Festival Kicks off today.
: The Rose Festival held every year at the Asia’s largest Zakir Rose Garden was inaugurated by the H.E Shiv Raj Patil , Governor of Punjab and Administrator UT in presence of Sh.Pradip Mehra Adviser to the Administrator , Sh.Ram Niwas, Home Secretary, Sanjay Kumar Finance Secretary, M.P Singh Secretary to Governor, R.Shrivastva IG UT, Anu Chatrath , Mayor Municipal Corporation UT, Roshan Sunkaria, Commissioner Municipal Corporation, Chief Engineer, CITCO MD, Director Tourism and other senior officials of the Administration. The school students’ children welcomed the Governor by releasing the bunch of colorful balloons and thrilling cultural performance by NZCC artists. The Governor also released the souvenir at the inaugural ceremony and took the round at flower display section set up at Rose Garden..
The Rose Festival has also seen the inauguration of the Rs 1-crore musical fountain at the entrance. This fountain has been the main highlight of the Rose Garden during the evenings. In addition to this a ‘New Children Play Area’ has also been inaugurated. As part of grant provided by Ministry of Tourism, Govt. of India, more than 275 magnificent varieties of roses have been introduced besides the existing 593.
Adorned with lots of flowers all around, the ambiance was filled with fragrance of flowers. At the entrance of Rose Garden around 350 wind chimes have been hanged on the 40 feet long on a pole which welcome the visitors with its melodies chime produced with the blowing wind.
The main highlight of the festival was the Folk dance Competition held at the Rose Garden. Various schools and colleges had participated in this. In the school category, Government Model Senior Secondary School Sector 37 B won the first prize with stunning Bhangra performance whereas DAV 8 danced on Mararthi dance “laavni” and Government Model School, Sector 28 did Giddha and bagged second and third position respectively. The consolation prize in the college category First prize was bagged by Post Graduate Govt College Sector 11, second and third by GCG, Sector 46 and GCG 11 respectively.The Chief Guest on this occasion was Dr.Roshan Sunkaria, Commissioner Municipal Corporation UT.
During the day at Rose Garden there was melodies police Brass and Pipe band performance by bands such as Director General Home, Haryana, Commandant 7BN PP Jallandhar, DGP Chandigarh Police, SSP PAP Faridkot, Commandant 1st IRP Patiala, Commandant Second Battalion HAP Madhuban, and IPBP Ramgarh.
Another highlight of the festival was a live performance by the participants of Voice of Chandigarh 2009 at the mini stage at Leisure valley who entertained visitors with the hit Punjabi and Hindi numbers.. The Food court has been the main attraction in the festival. Thronged with people, CITCO DA VEHRA and Chandigarh Beckons had many visitors to savor the sumptuous cuisine. In addition to this, the amusement park has been the cynosure as the good number of children and youngster turned up to enjoy merry go round rides etc.
The exhibitors at the Leisure Valley include Chandigarh Tourism Department, Le Corbusier Centre, K.K Phulkari Centre, Venus Decors, Gary Arts, Celebrations forever, Organiser’z – the Wedding planner, Divya Jyoti Jagrati Sansthan, Shivalik Nursery, Museum and Art gallery Sector 10, Guru Gobind Singh School, Government College of Art sector 10, Empowerment Centre, Greenfield Vermicompost, Trendz , K Kush Art Point and Chandigarh traffic Police.
As part of the Rose Festival, a scintillating programme of dance and music, Mehakti sham, was organized by the ITFT College, Chandigarh, today, at the leisure valley sector 10. Witnessed by Bollywood – A Journey of Romance took the audience back to the black and white era from year 1947 to colour picturisation till 2010. Mr. M.P Singh, secretary to Governor of Punjab and administrator U.T was the chief guest. There were seventeen performances by the students of ITFT College on flower based songs and dances , from the movies like Dil Se, Three Idiots , Mission Kashmir , Jab Jab Phool Khile , Bride and Prejudice , Kabhi Kabhi , Aarzoo, Sholey , Veer Zara , Jodha Akbar , Love Story , Aradhna , Tere Ghar ke Samne , Dil Bole Hadippa , Saathiya , Dil Ka Thug and Tamil and a Punjabi song.
On February 27th, Koena Mitra, Bollywood dancing sensation will perform live along with her trope, while Acrobat dance Artists from Ukraine will perform rope dance, few Artists from Belarus in Ukrain, who performed in the Olympics team of Belarus and in Europe, Russia & USA will also be a part of troupe . In addition to this there will be fashion show .Designer Libas and Ananmika will showcase their spring summer collection.
