Chandigarh Police Busted Auto Lifter Gang : 18 Vehicles Recovered : 05 Arrested

With the arrest of five (05) auto lifers namely (1) Parveen Kumar s/o Sat Pal r/o Village Rajpur, PS Murthal, Distt Sonipat, Haryana, (2) Shamsher Singh s/o Sh. Ram Narayan r/o # 2081/1, Indira Colony, Rohtak, Haryana, (3) Shahnawaj s/o Imam Elahi r/o # 882, Bagpat Gate, Delhi Road, Meerut (UP), (4) Irfan s/o Abbas r/o # 5, Makbara Abu Chowk, Bojria Dargah Wali Gali, Meerut (UP) and, (5) Asim s/o Shah Niwaj r/o # 882, Bagpat Gate, Delhi Road, Meerut (UP), the Chandigarh Police, Crime Branch has achieved a major success in busting an auto lifter gang indulging in cases of MV theft. So far 18 (eighteen) stolen vehicles have been recovered from their possession.
During interrogation, it has been revealed that accused Parveen Kumar, with the help of other gang members used to steal vehicles from different cities. After stealing the vehicle, they used to change its engine/chassis numbers with the help of accused Shahnawaz and his son Asim. Accused Shahnawaz and his son Asim are expert in changing the engine & chassis numbers. Police has also recovered the instruments used for changing the engine & chassis numbers i.e. Grinder Machine, 05 kits of English alphabets A to Z & digits from 0 to 9, hammer etc from their possession. Later, they would prepare fake documents of the stolen vehicles with the help of their other gang members and sold these vehicles to innocent buyers.

The following total eighteen (18) stolen vehicles have been recovered from the possession of this gang : –

On verification, 06 vehicles have been found to be stolen from Chandigarh, 02 Safari vehicles from Delhi, 01 Indica Car from Rudarpur (UK) and 01 Indigo Car from Samrala (Pb) by this gang. Further process of identifying the remaining recovered vehicles is in progress. With the arrest of this gang, the following cases of vehicle theft registered with Chandigarh Police, UT/Chandigarh have been worked-out: –

1. Case FIR No.547/2012 u/s 379/411 IPC, PS/MM, Chandigarh (Bolero).
2. Case FIR No.453/2012 u/s 379/411 IPC, PS/MM, Chandigarh (Indigo).
3. Case FIR No.463/2012 u/s 379/411 IPC, PS/MM, Chandigarh (Bolero).
4. Case FIR No.86/2013 u/s 379/411 IPC, PS-36, Chandigarh (Bolero).
5. Case FIR No.125/2013 u/s 379/411 IPC, PS/MM, Chandigarh (Indigo).
6. Case FIR No.147 dated 01.04.2013 u/s 420/467/468/471/473/474/411/120- B IPC, PS-39, Chandigarh (Indigo).

Accused Parveen Kumar is a habitual criminal. Earlier, he was arrested in 12 cases of vehicle theft registered with the various police stations of Chandigarh. Besides, he was also arrested in 15 cases of dacoity, robbery, NDPS Act, Arms Act & vehicle theft in Banaras, Delhi, Nabha etc. Accused Shamsher Singh s/o Sh. Ram Narayan r/o # 2081/1, Indira Colony, Rohtak, Haryana is also having criminal background. Earlier, he was arrested in Case FIR No.425 dated 18.11.2011 u/s 407/467/468/471/120-B IPC, PS-39, Chandigarh, and a cheating case registered at Palwal Police (Haryana) which is under trial in the Court. Accused Irfan was sent to Judicial custody.

All the remaining 04 accused are in police custody and are being interrogated to find out their involvements in other criminal cases. The crime branch team which took painstaking efforts in achieving this major success against these criminals is being rewarded. Further investigation is in progress. Efforts are being made to arrest other associates of this gang.
