To mark the World Heritage Day, Departments of Tourism and Education Chandigarh Administration in association with INTACH Chandigarh Chapter , big92.7 FM are going to organize a Heritage Walk on April 18th. A march will be flagged off from the starting point i.e. Open hand monument at 6.30 am. This walk will culminate at Rock Garden covering a distance of 2 Kms. The participation is open to all.
To create more hype and awareness among school going children, a cleanliness drive and various competitions will be held through out the week. The Chandigarh Administration has planned out to hold various activities commencing with the Heritage walk on April 18th. To impart more education among the students of various schools, a cleanliness drive will be held on April 20th at Sukhna Lake from 7 am till 9 am. Around 500 students of various schools are expected to participate in this drive.
In addition to this, around 400 students from various Government and public school will participate in On the spot painting competition to be organized at Museum and Art Gallery Sector 10 Chandigarh .The competition has been divided into two categories, with the participation of students from class 6th to 8th in one category and 9th to 12th in another category. The theme of the competition will be on Heritage sites in Chandigarh.
A week long celebrations of Heritage week will conclude with an Essay competition to be held on April 23rd at Government Senior secondary school sector 10 Chandigarh, All high, Government and public schools of Chandigarh have been invited to actively participate in these programmes. The first, second and third positions in each category of painting and essay competition will be felicitated with a cash prize worth Rs 6000, Rs 4000, Rs 2000 apart from this, two consolation prizes of Rs 1000 each will be taken out .
According to Secretary Tourism UT, Sh.Ram Niwas “Its pride for our city that we have inherited rich Heritage. On World Heritage day, we want the Chandigarh dwellers to come together and share a common platform and spread message. In addition to this, he further added we are organizing various competitions; so that children can be educated on Heritage and realize its worth. ”
