Chandigarh Carnival begins with gaiety

Chandigarh, November 28: Amidst lots of colorful activities, the Chandigarh carnival unfolded today, adding another year of celebrations in the history of Chandigarh. The Carnival was inaugurated by H.E (retd) Gen.Dr.S.F Rodrigues at Leisure valley sector 10 today. The Administrator was welcomed by the different folk artists and Children holding balloons and with a bouquet of their traditional arts. The Governor along with the officers of Chandigarh Administration took a round of the stalls set up by various organizations, institutions and NGOs. The officers from the Chandigarh Administration present were including Sh Ram Niwas Home Secretary SSP Srivastva, Amandeep Kaur  Director Tourism, Sunil Bhatia Director Education, D.K Tiwari, MD CITCO Randhawa  Director Museum and Art Gallery. Thereafter the Carnival parade was flagged off by the His.Excellency .With a theme “sea carnival” parade, many students of colleges of Arts along with their floats, Rock garden tableaux, ITFT and other colleges participated in the parade . The tableaux and floats beautifully designed and decorated moved around the city passing through Matka chowk to the cricket stadium via sector 22 Market to Aroma Hotel and culminated in sector 17 plaza. It had a mass participation by the students attired in colorful fancy dresses and wearing Carnival caps .The floats in the shape of Cartoons, Sea animals made the on lookers still on the road hence added dimension to the festivities..           

The cultural day performances began with the “Sammi” a punjabi dance by the Students of Government College of Girls. The students of Government College for education sector-20 enthralled the audience with the Bhangra. The Post graduate college sector 11 won the accolade while performing traditional Giddha and Bhangra items. With cozy weather in the morning audience enjoyed the cultural performances under the sun. The items by NZCC like Mayor Dance, Gujrati dance were enjoyed by the people. The ambience was filled with thrill with the special performances by two Punjabi singers like Daljit, Simran.The whole village of Chandigarh Carnival was so lively and colorful with some or other activities like tattoo making, floats ride by the Children and especially the live performance by the visitors at Sangeet Natak academi stall including rides in the amusement park  were happening simultaneously on the premises of the village. Most of the exhibitors in the Carnival had arranged various quizzes, games and many activities to pull in the crowd.           

The European film festival began today with the screening of an Austrian film titled All the Queen’s Men.  The films from different countries were screened during the day at Museum and Art Gallery auditorium.  The Static Vintage car exhibition was another attraction for the visitors, having classic old models.            

The Food section in the carnival was thronged with so many visitors. With mouth watering menu on the platter all the food stalls of CITCO da Vehra, Hotel Beckons and IHM had good sumptuous food to offer to the visitors.           

ITFT film city in association with Bollywood facilitation Cell UT Chandigarh presented a complete spectrum of the process activities involved in making film including 8 stalls depicting various segments of the industry such as radio, television, animation etc. The Le Corbusier centre exhibited the souvenirs and memorabilia of Le Corbusier architecture and Artwork.

 The day ended with a great performances by Upasana Singh a renowned Bollywood celebrity, Bharti Singh, also known as Lalli of Laughter Challenge won the heart of audiences with her hilarious performances where as Banwari Lal Jhol too gripped the audience with his wonderful performances.            

The other attraction in the Carnival was the stall set up by Mad Arts of Jaspal Bhatti Film institute involving people winning different vegetables through putting rings. The organizer will give away prizes to the top three exhibitors in the Carnival and also felicitate the best ten fancy dressed competitors students who participated in the Carnival  parade today. The celebrations will begin tomorrow at 10 Am with new Cultural performances followed a mega musical nite by a renowned Bollywood singer KK and tropue at Leisure Valley
