The final plan for the second Chandigarh Arts and Heritage Festival 2010 were panned out in a meeting, convened by Sh. Ram Niwas Home Secretary UT Chandigarh, scheduled to be kicked off from March 27th to April 2nd, meeting was attended by Mr. Kamlesh Kumar, Director Cultural Affairs,Mr. Rajnish Wattas, Director Consultant, Tagore Theatre,Kamal Tiwari, Chairman Sangeet Natak Akademi,Diwan Manna, Chairman, Lalit Kala Akademi,Prof. Mrs. Manju Jaidka, Chairperson, Sahitya Akademi,Mrs. Neelam Man Singh, renowned theatre personality,Mrs. Sobha Kosar, renowned theatre personality,Mrs. Seema Bhalla, renowned interior designer. Mr. Subhash Ghosh, renowned musician. During the meeting Home Secretary apprised he members that all these mega events related with this festival will be free of cost.

The inauguration of the festival has been scheduled to be held on March 27th with a Classical singing performance by Pandit Ulhas Kashalkar at 7 pm at the Tagore Theatre. The six day festival has the best of performances by the artists from art and cultural fraternity. On March 28th, there will be Face to Face a Literary Activity by Shatiya Akademi Chandigarh followed by a Classic dance by Leela Samson at 7 pm at the Tagore theatre. In addition to this Lalit Kala Akademi will also hold an Art workshop from 28th March to 1st April at the Museum and Art Gallery Sector 10 Chandigarh.

Sitar recital by Pandit Bhudhaditya Mukherjee will be held on 29 th March at the Tagore Theatre. On March 30th a Screening of film titled “The Making of King Lear” will be held at 11 am in the Indian Theatre at 11.00 am at the Panjab University, Chandigarh followed by Performance by NZCC artists Plaza in the evening”. The screening of another film titled The Grotowski Workshop will be held on March 31 at the Department of Indian Theatre at Punjab University. The same day a Hindi play by Amal Allana will be held at 7 pm at the Tagore Theatre.

To bring forth the best of theatre production, the Chandigarh Administration will put forth an amazing English play “Broken Images” by Shabana Azmi on April 1st at 7 pm at Tagore Theatre. During the day, there will be showcasing of a film “In the Jungle of Cities” at Indian Theatre Panjab University.

According to the Secretary Cultural Affairs Ram Niwas “Chandigarh is the city of Art lovers. Citizens are inclined to various forms of Art or culture. For the seven days the citizens will have an opportunity to witness the best of Theatre productions, workshops and classical performance”. images10
