The Chandigarh Golf Association (CGA) in their Quarterly Meeting of Executive Committee held at the CGA Golf Range hold recently, honoured their Founder President and Patron Late Shri D.P. AZADDronacharya by observing two minutes silence followed by rich tributes paid by Sh. CSR Reddy, President CGA. Sh. D.P. AZAD was an icon in the sports world not only of Chandigarh but of the Northern Region of India. He had many firsts in his life and remained first to be active in sports promotion till the very end of his journey in this world. According to Sh. CSR Reddy President Chandigarh Golf Association for paying befitting and memorable tribute, CGA Executive Committee has decided to hold an Annual Golf Championship for the Golf Enthusiasts of the Press and Media on 7th December, 2013 which will be an Annual Tournament and will be known as 1st Dronacharya DPAzad Annual Golf Championship for Press/Media. To remember Azad for times to come, a Fun Golf match for the Fourth Estate has been instituted as an yearly event.
Cricket was his first love and Golf became a close Second. In Golf, he imbibed humor in his playing groups and insisted complimenting good shots played even by the opponents. That wasAzad, a Sportsman with exemplary sportsmanship. The CGA has also decided deservedly to honour their founder president by putting upAzad’s life size portrait at the entrance gate of CGA Golf Range and as a back drop to the Foundation Stone laid when CGA was christened Sh Reddy said. Over 30 entries have been confirmed.
