Centre finalizes locations to set up 4 UMSP in Chhattisgarh : Chief Minister thank Central Government

Central Government has completed the task of identifying locations for setting up four ultra mega steel projects (UMSP) in Chhattisgarh to accelerate creation of large steel capacity in the country.  Dilimili (Bastar), Dagori (Bilaspur), Geedum (Dantewada) and Rajnandgaon have been identified as the final locations for setting up four ultra mega steel projects in the state. Chief Minister has thanked Central Government for marking locations in Chhattisgarh for establishing UMSPs and has assured that State Government will extend complete cooperation in implementing these projects.
Ministry of Steel, Secretary Shri G Mohan Kumar today met Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Dr. Raman Singh here and discussed formation of special purpose vehicles (SPVs) for developing these UMSP. Chhattisgarh Chief Secretary Shri Vivek Dhand, Secretary to CM Shri Subodh Kumar Singh and Resident Commissioner Smt. B V Uma Devi were also present during the discussion.
In the meeting, Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh emphasized that a major portion of steel produced in these UMSP should be utilized for development of infrastructure in the state as iron-ore from the state would be mainly used for production. He said that State Government would ensure that these projects add value to Chhattisgarh and generate employment for locals. It was also decided that displaced villagers would be rehabilitated in a modernized way and be given employment, health care and education facilities.
Secretary (steel) informed in the meeting that a target of producing 300 MT per year till 2025-26 has been set as per national policy. He added that Chhattisgarh would be a great contributor in achieving this target. He said that Central Government has decided to form SPVs for developing ultra mega integrated steel plants on the lines of a similar initiative in power sector.
Chief Secretary of Chhattisgarh Shri Vivek Dhand said that State Government has been working on a fast pace for acquiring land, water linkage, infrastructure, iron and coal linkage, power and environment clearance for setting up these UMSP in the state.
