KOLKATA: The central sanctioning and monitoring committee (CSMC) of the Union ministry of urban development on Tuesday approved two important city projects and another project in Howrah worth Rs 267 crore.

The city-based projects are the renewal project of Tallah tank, for which Rs 67.81 crore has been approved, and the dhapa project at New Town, for which Rs 153 crore has been approved. Both these projects will be implemented by the Kolkata Municipal Corporation. The other project is the water supply scheme worth Rs 46 crore in Uluberia.

Last week, the CSMC approved Rs 313.27 crore to build the four-lane Garden Reach to Diamond Harbour Road flyover project to be executed by the Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA). The state urban development department received the administrative approval and sanction of Rs 274.76 crore for the sewerage scheme of Halisahar under the ministry of environment and forests.

The New Town project, to come up on a 20-acre plot in Action Area III, will comprise a compact solid waste disposal ground from where energy will be generated. The project will have compost plants, transfer stations and modern mechanical transporters.

The Tallah tank was commissioned in 1911 in North Kolkata. It has a capacity of 41 million litres and provides water to an estimated 36 lakh population. The tank has developed some leakages over the years which will be renewed.

The Uluberia project comes under the JNNURM scheme. A 10 million gallon per day capacity water treatment plant was earlier set up here but, that did not meet the demand. According to plans, another 18 MGD capacity will be added. The project will be implemented by the Kolkata Metropolitan Water and Sanitation Authority.

The state is also scheduled to get approval of a number of projects under the NGRBA and MGNREGA schemes
