Celebrations Of World Tourism Week Started With Indian Tourism

              World Tourism Week celebrations in Chandigarh this year started with a Clean Chandigarh Campaign as a special initiative of the Ministry of Tourism under the Clean India drive. Secretary Tourism UT Sh. D.K. Tiwari along with Director Tourism Ms. Tanvi Garg and members of the Business promotion council Sector 17, prominent hoteliers members of the Hotel and Restaurant Association of Chandigarh HRAC, members of the NGOs, children of IHM and CIHM and students of the schools started the drive of cleanliness at Sector Plaza 17, Chandigarh which is frequently visited by domestic and Foreign Tourists. The Chandigarh Municipal Corporation joined hands in cleaning t he city Centre along with other stakeholders of the Clean Chandigarh Campaign

    This followed by another cleanliness drive at Chandigarh Railway Station with equal participation from Hoteliers members and the Railway personals. The Clean Chandigarh Campaign under the special initiative of Tourism Ministry would continue at various Tourist spots of the city including Rock garden, Sukhna Lake etc.

   The evening saw Clean Chandigarh Seminar attended by many stakeholders involved in cleanliness of the city in terms of their specific contribution in their area of operations. Sh.K.K.Sharma, Adviser to Administrator was the Chief Guest at the occasion and directed the various stakeholders including NGOs, Schools etc to take up certain tourist spots under the initiative of Ministry of Tourism so as to make Chandigarh a still better and a clean destination.

   On this occasion, Dr.R.K.kohli Prof of Panjab University spoke about various ways chemicals harm/affect us in our daily life. Sh.Ankit Gupta, Secretary Chandigarh Hospitality association spoke about the levels of cleanliness to be maintained in the Hotels, Restaurants with the cooperative support of the tourists. The Superintendent of Police Sh. Desh Raj highlighted the need and importance of Tourist Police in Chandigarh. The Tourist police is being imparted special training by the Institute of Hotel Management so as to assist the tourists at all tourists spots.
