The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has made changes to the question paper pattern for class 10th and 12th board exams. This year, students will face new pattern questions that aim to move away from the traditional rote learning approach. The CBSE has issued letters to all affiliated schools about the changes in the exam pattern, which will be prepared based on the new education policy.

The new question paper format will have fewer short and long questions and will include more multiple-choice questions (MCQs). CBSE’s National Trainer Anurag Gupta highlights the advantages of this pattern, saying that it will help students focus more on understanding the topics rather than memorizing them. Furthermore, MCQs provide students with the opportunity to develop their own strategies for the exam.

In the upcoming board exams, students will face response-based questions for the first time, which will comprise up to 20 percent of the total questions. This means that while students will be presented with multiple-choice questions, the responses they provide will be graded based on their answers. Special classes have been arranged to give students a more in-depth understanding of this new exam pattern.

The question paper pattern for class 10th and 12th will be different. For the 10th grade, 50% of the questions will be based on aptitude, with MCQs, case-based questions, source-based integrated questions, or other types of questions. The weightage of MCQs has been increased to 20%, whereas the weightage for short and long answer questions has been reduced from 40% to 30%.

Similarly, for the 12th grade, 40% of the questions will be based on aptitude, with MCQs, case-based questions, source-based integrated questions, or other types of questions. The weightage of MCQs has been increased to 20%, whereas the weightage for short and long answer questions has been reduced from 50% to 40%.

The CBSE’s new question paper pattern aims to make exams less burdensome on students, encouraging them to understand concepts rather than simply memorizing them. With the changes in the exam pattern, the CBSE hopes that students will be able to develop their own strategies and perform better in the board exams.
