CBI registers a case against an official of ESIC on the allegations of misappropriation of Rs. 96.43 lakh (approx.), and conducts searches

The Central Bureau of Investigation has registered a case against an Assistant, ESIC Hospital, Peenya, Bangalore (Karnataka) and others on a complaint from ESIC Department. It was alleged that the accused while posted at ESIC, Branch Office, Bommasandra during the period 29.01.2016 to 17.09.2019 had connived with others and  misappropriated the benefit payments from ESIC Branch Office, Bommasandra & other Branch Offices to the tune of Rs. 96,43,936/- (approx.).  It was further alleged that the accused had misused his official position & created fake employer registrations through self-registration portal of ESIC for employers and used fake or unused insurance numbers in the name of illegal beneficiaries for availing the benefits fraudulently.

Searches were conducted at 2 locations including Hubli, Bangalore (Karnataka) which led to recovery of incriminating documents.

Investigation is continuing.
