CBI files a chargesheet against 24 accused in a case related to alleged murder of two youths of kerala

The Central Bureau of Investigation has filed a chargesheet against total 24 accused before the CJM, Ernakulam(Kerala) in a case related to alleged murder of Shri Kripesh and Shri Sarat Lal at Periya Village, District Kasargode(Kerala).

            CBI had registered the instant case on 23.10.2019 against 14 accused in pursuance to the orders dated 30.09.2019 of the Hon’ble Kerala High Court in WP(C) No.10265/2019 and taken over the investigation of Crime No.81/2019 dated 17.02.2019, earlier registered at Bekal Police Station(Kerala) relating to the alleged murder of Shri Kripesh and Shri Sarat Lal, both Youth leaders of a Politcal Party on 17.12.2019 at Periya Village, District Kasargode(Kerala). It was alleged that on 17.02.2019 between 18.00 hours to 19.45 hours, Shri Kripesh and Shri Sarat Lal@Koorangara Joshy, two leaders of a Political Party were brutally murdered by workers of other Political Party at Kaliyatt in Periya Village due to political enmity. A case was registered vide No.81/2019 at Bekal Police Station on the same day and the said case was transferred to Crime Branch of State Police & re-registered on 21.02.2019.  After investigation, the Crime Branch of State Police filed final report/chargesheet on 20.05.2019 against 14 accused.

            Aggrieved by the investigation and charge sheet filed in this case by the State police, the victims’ parents filed a WP(C) No.10265 of 2019 before the Hon’ble High Court of Kerala for CBI investigation. The Hon’ble High Court of Kerala vide order dated 30.09.2019 set aside the charge sheet filed by the State police and transferred the case to CBI for further investigation. Accordingly, CBI re-registered the case on 23.10.2019. Further, the Kerala Government filed Writ Appeal in Hon’ble High Court against the said order. The Hon’ble High Court of Kerala upheld its earlier order. The Kerala Government further filed SLP before the Hon’ble Supreme Court and the Hon’ble Supreme Court odered to continue the investigation by CBI vide order dated 01.12.2020.

            CBI conducted thorough investigation and examined more than 300 witness & collected several documents etc in the case. During investigation, it was alleged that there were some politically motivated attacks and counter attacks between the workers of two Political Parties in the area. It was further alleged that the brutal attack on the two victims was a retaliation to the earlier attack on one of the accused in the chargesheet and others, who hatched conspiracy to attack the victims. It was also alleged that in pursuance to the said conspiracy, the victims were brutally attacked on 17.02.2019 with deadly weapons causing grievous injuries to the deceased, who succumbed to death.

            CBI had arrested five accused on 01.12.2021 and presently they are in judicial custody. In addition, 11 accused earlier arrested by State Police are also in judicial custody.

            After thorough investigation, CBI filed chargesheet.
