CBI arrests a Project Director of NHAI for accepting bribe of Rs. One Lakh

The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested a Project Director working in National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) Vellore (Tamil Nadu) for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs.One lakh from the complainant, a Toll collection contractor working at Sriperambadur toll plaza on Chennai-Bangalore NH-4.

It was alleged in the complaint that various contract bills for Rs. 6 Lakhs pertaining to Sriperambadur toll plaza were pending with accused for sanction. He demanded bribe of Rs. One lakh from the complainant and called him to his hotel room in Chennai to hand over the bribe amount. CBI laid the trap and the accused was arrested while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. One lakh from the complainant.

During searches at his residential premises amount of Rs. 3.5 Lakhs and documents relating investment in his name and in the name of his family members were recovered, which are being scrutinized.

The accused was produced before the Principal Special Judge for CBI cases, Chennai and remanded to judicial custody.
