Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh felicitated renowned cartoonists of the country Mr. Vishnu Pandurang Akulwar and Mr. Manoj Kuril with Lifetime Achievement Award for their excellent contribution to the art of cartoon, yesterday at Cartoon Festival.
In his address to the gathering, Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh said that cartoon is a powerful art that brings awareness in the society. He said that we should all make collective efforts to keep the art of cartoon alive. Cartoon Watch magazine has made consistent and constructive efforts to preserve this artform. This magazine started the tradition of felicitating renowned cartoonists of the country in year 2003, which has been upheld till date. And this is an achievement in itself. He further said that Mr. Vishnu Pandurang and Mr. Manok Kuril have created their own identity through their cartoons. In his address to the programme, senior journalist Mr. Rahul Dev said that cartoon is like soul of a newspaper. Sarcastic approach of cartoon plays an important role in creating awareness in society. On the occasion, Dr Himanshu Dwivedi and Founder of Cartoon Watch magazine Mr. Mrityunjay Sharma also expressed their views.
In the cartoon festival organized by Cartoon Watch magazine, Chief Minister tried drawing cartoons with Cartoonists Mr. Vishnu Pandurang Akulwar and Mr. Manoj Kuril. On the occasion, nearly 70 youth artists participated in Nutan Kala Sangam and made cartoons on various subjects. Mr. Anil Pradhan secured first rank, Mr. Gaurav Chandrakar second and Mr. Gopal Das held third rank among all the young cartoonists who participated in the cartoon festival. In the programme, Chairman Chhattisgarh Agriculture and Seed Development Corporation Mr. Shyam Bais, Editor Cartoon Watch magazine Mr. Triambak Sharma, Litterateur Mr. Ramendranath Mishra and many other litterateurs, journalists and prominent citizens associated with cartoon art were present.
