Mumbai  : The troubles for the Indian edtech giant, Byju’s, seem to be compounding as its employees face an unexpected challenge – the non-receipt of their January salaries. This unsettling development comes on the heels of Byju’s assurance in December that salaries would be seamlessly credited on the first day of each month.

Broken Promises and Unmet Expectations

Despite the company’s emailed commitment to its workforce, stating that December salaries would be disbursed on 2nd January, followed by January salaries on 1st February, the latter date has come and gone without any sign of financial relief for the employees. The resounding silence from Byju’s on this matter only adds to the growing uncertainty among its dedicated staff.

Financial Woes Extend to the US Unit

While the financial turbulence continues domestically, Byju’s US unit has taken a drastic step by applying for Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings in the US court of Delaware. This move signals deeper financial troubles, with the unit reportedly shouldering liabilities ranging from $1 billion to $10 billion. The petition filed discloses Byju’s Alpha unit’s assets in the ballpark of 500 million to 1 billion dollars, with estimated creditors ranging from 100 to 199.

The Silence Echoes Louder

Despite these seismic shifts, Byju’s has maintained a stoic silence, leaving employees grappling with uncertainty and anxiety about their financial well-being. The unfulfilled salary promises and the subsequent bankruptcy filing paint a bleak picture for the once-thriving edtech giant.

The Impact on Employee Morale

Beyond the financial implications, the failure to meet salary commitments sends ripples through the morale of the workforce. Byju’s, once a beacon of innovation in the education technology sector, is now navigating treacherous waters that threaten to erode the trust and dedication of its employees.

A Testing Time for Byju’s and its Workforce

In conclusion, the unmet salary promises and the Chapter 11 filing by Byju’s US unit underscore the challenging times faced by the edtech giant. The lack of communication and transparency adds to the growing concerns, not just for the employees awaiting their due salaries but for the industry as a whole, questioning the stability and future trajectory of Byju’s.
